Aluminium Rolled Plates
the standard among aluminum plates
Aluminium rolled plates – well-established standard materials, however the use of them needs to be carefully considered.
If the benefits of the material aluminium should be used, usually for the most applications the well known conventional aluminium rolled plates are chosen. This might be a very time- and also cost-expensive decision.
Aluminium rolled plates have a couple of difficult properties such as residual stress, a poor parallelism and flatness, and in general directional properties inside the plate. This poor characteristics of aluminium rolled plates can cause production errors or a distortion which also leads to waste.
The use of aluminium rolled material also requires enormous efforts during the machining. If the component needs to have very narrow tolerances in thickness and flatness it is necessary to do the cnc-machining of aluminium rolled plates with caution by multiple turning around the workpiece and with enough resting phases. This makes the machining very time- and cost-expensive. Due to the high residual stress-level of aluminium rolled plates it often happens that the finished components does not meet the requirements which again causes an expensive rework. The loss of strength (up to 40%, depends on the thickness) from the plate centre to the core, which is another bad characteristic of aluminium rolled material, additionally leads to a non-uniform loads which increases the tool wear.
Due to all that reasons we highly recommend the use of G.AL® Aluminium Cast Plates.
However, if this is from the view of engineering & design not possible to switch to aluminium cast plates, or your customer insists of using rolled aluminium, we are also able to help you. With a wide range of high-quality rolled plates we can offer the following product types:
