Aluminum is our passion. And our knowledge! Benefit from our knowledge.

Many information can be found in aluminum-manual, which is being completely revised and will soon be available. In the meantime, please use our glossary for useful word explanations.

Grain boundary

Grain boundaries are 2D defects in the crystal structure; the interface between two grains, or crystallites, in a polycrystalline material.

Grain growth

Increase in size of grains (crystallites) in a material at high temperature making the material more brittle and less resilient; arises through overheating or too long hold times during the heat treatment.

Grain refinement

Generation of a finer grain in the structure by appropriate heat treatment of melt, leads to increase the strength and toughness of the workpiece.

Gravity die casting

Substance which slows, inhibits or prevents the reactions of chemical, biological or physiological nature.
